Our friends at the Western Australian Road Transport Association (WARTA) held their Annual Charity Golf Day on Tuesday 14th October at the beautiful Joondalup Golf Club. Proceeds from the day will be used to further our research program and help us find a cure for diabetes.
Dozens of WA transport workers swapped their steering wheels for golf clubs to raise money for diabetes research. Under the blazing sun, 100 members of WARTA joined together in a fun day full of entertainment and raised over $5000.
We are very proud of the ongoing association with WARTA and what this support enables us to do. Funds raised from the Charity Golf Day will support our existing research projects in Western Australia which include:
- Predicting type 1 diabetes and diabetes complications
- Investigating obesity and diabetes
- Generating insulin producing cells as a cure for diabetes
- Understanding memory loss and diabetes
- Understanding the development of blindness and kidney failure in diabetes
It is this kind of support that allows research to continue in to the understanding of diabetes which has reached epidemic proportions around the world and in Australia. If we are going to make a difference and prevent diabetes in the future we must support our researchers to find the answers.
On behalf of Diabetes Research WA and all those who live with diabetes and their families, we thank you for your support and look forward to another fun day next year.
