'Hope in a boat' - an Albany Lions project

A motorcycle towing a tinny around Australia in 80 days to raise funds for Diabetes Research WA!! This has never been done before but a group of dedicated residents from Albany in WA decided that something needed to be done to stop diabetes in its tracks.  A team of two motorcycles and a car will visit more than 240 Lions Clubs;  journey of more than 22,000km.

A spokesperson for the group said 'We believe that the return will far out way the costs. Diabetes Research WA has committed significant funds for life-changing medical research into both type 1and type 2 diabetes and we believe that with further support we can bring a cure for diabetes closer'.

Lions have made a significant break though with saving sight and with this kind of support for Diabetes Research WA we just might be able to do it again.

Presently there are more than 385 million people world-wide living with diabetes and it is expected that in less than 25 years this will reach 592 million people.  That is 25 times the current population of Australia. We also know that every six seconds a person dies from diabetes.  The health system will be over loaded unless this research continues.  The saving for the government in supplemented medication cost (PBS.) will far out way the cost of this project. The PBS costs all taxpayers.

Sponsors include Albany Solar, Bulldog Folding Trailers (WA),  HoweTheronand Milan, Albany Stationers,  Steve’s Motorcycles and Rusty’s Marine. With assistance from Mckail General Store, Contach Metals
