This year we will mark World Diabetes Day 2018 with an inspirational breakfast in Crawley where we will unveil our latest research grants and hear from one of Perth’s top endocrinologists.

Our ‘Being Extraordinary & Breaking Down Barriers’ event is on at the UWA Watersports Complex on Wednesday, November 14

Director of Diabetes Services at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Dr Joey Kaye will speak about the challenges he’s faced in training to take on one of WA’s toughest physical challenges, the Ironman Western Australia event in December in Busselton.

Inspired by the determination of his patients with diabetes, Dr Kaye’s quest to complete the 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km run before he turns 50 early next year is also a fundraiser for Diabetes Research WA.

Physiotherapist and high-performance director at Front Runner Sports Rafael Baugh will also present at the breakfast on Planning for Success. Raf is a former #3 ITU Duathlon world ranking athlete and West Australian athletics coach who along with his team work ongoingly with Athletics Western Australia competitors and run The Running Centre in West Perth.

We will also announce our three new research projects grants for 2019.

We'd love you to help us raise Dr Kaye's tally by donating to his ‘Dash for Diabetes’ fundraiser. Head over to https://give.everydayhero.com/au/joey-s-ironman-challenge
